Why is a ballet bun so important?
A ballet bun may well have its roots back in the 1800s as a fashionable hairstyle which accentuated the line of the neck. However there are far more practical reasons why a ballet bun is still the standard hair style of any ballerina.
Having a dancer’s hair up in a bun allows a dance teacher to see the line that is being created by the back, shoulders, neck and arms. This then allows corrections to be made. It also avoids any distractions caused by long hair in pony tails or plaits.
